Tucked away in the southernmost corner of Portugal, Faro is the capital of the Algarve region, celebrated for its rich history and breathtaking landscapes. I had the privilege of visiting this part of Portugal a decade ago, and it continues to inspire my work to this day. One memory that stands out is the doors at the Municipal Museum. Though centuries old, its design would feel at home in any modern space. The dark viridian green, paired with the crisp white plaster of the building’s exterior, created a striking harmony of colour.

The simplicity of the door, set against the curved, dome-like space, spoke to my love for minimalist design. The understated elegance of the scene left a lasting impression, evoking a deep sense of calm and quiet beauty. With my background working in the design and the built environment I often find that the experience and feeling with a space can often be the trigger point for an artwork. I love the process of working out how to transform that feeling into a tangible piece of art whilst honouring the architectural context that inspired it.
