Pink, red and blue are colours not usually conjured up by the thought of Guinness, but the immersive experience at St James’ Gate told a different story. The Guinness Storehouse in Dublin traces beer brewing back to Mesopotamia, over five thousand years ago, when it was discovered that barley was especially suitable for brewing. Today, Guinness purchase around two-thirds of the malting barley grown on the island of Ireland each year. It was this account of crop cultivation that inspired this painting; the harmonies of colour literally came to light through this photograph and I knew I had to capture it through art.
