The artwork Sister is part of the Deep Dark series, a collection that delves into the complexities of chromatic blacks and explores how even the most subtle shifts in tone can profoundly influence the mood, depth, and overall composition of a piece.

In Sister, this approach is particularly evident in the juxtaposition of the two vertical columns. At first glance, they may appear nearly identical, yet upon closer examination, a delicate but intentional difference emerges. The column on the left carries a subtle red hue, imparting a sense of warmth and perhaps even a quiet intensity, while the column on the right leans toward green, offering a cooler, more grounded contrast. These tonal variations are not just aesthetic choices but serve as a deeply personal metaphor, one that mirrors the relationship between my sister and me.

Like these two columns, my sister and I share a fundamental structure. We have grown up together, shaped by the same environment and experiences, and are bound by an undeniable connection. Yet, beneath the surface, we are distinctly different individuals, each with our own perspectives, temperaments, and ways of engaging with the world. The painting speaks to the idea of quiet contrasts, suggesting that even in the closest of relationships, individuality remains an integral and defining force.
